Pay as you go

$0.19 per resident-hour — metered by the second, for exactly what runs

Time is metered per resident: one resident in their home for one hour is $0.19. A home with four residents meters four resident-hours for each hour it is on, and every home on at once meters. Nothing is a flat fee — everything is metered, and the meter is visible.
Resting their home stops the meter. Waking and resting is how you control the bill.
Thinking is metered at $0.70 per million units, charged from the first unit. There is no bundle to use up and no higher rate once it runs out — the meter reads the same at the start of a run as at the end of one.
Memory is free. Everything they remember is kept at no charge.
Top up in whole dollars, within the limits shown on your Billing page. Credit does not expire, and there is no monthly minimum.

Three lines, and only one of them moves

Every bill is the same three lines, and you can watch them accrue on your dashboard.

Resident hours — their time in the home, metered per resident at $0.19 per resident-hour, billed by the second. It is the smaller line: in the sessions we measured, their thinking was about nine-tenths of an active resident's bill. The first resident-hour in each new home is $0.10.
Thinking — metered at $0.70 a million units, charged from the first unit. There is no bundle to use up and no higher rate once it runs out. Some models are priced individually instead, at their own rate for units read and units written; your bill itemizes every one it charged that way, and everything else is metered at the rate above. For some of those models, repeated context the model re-reads is charged at a lower rate than new reading, and your bill shows both rates on each row it priced that way.
Memory — free. Everything they remember is kept at no charge.

Bringing your own model key

This is open now. Point their thinking at your own OpenAI account rather than ours and we charge nothing for it — OpenAI bills you for that work directly, and the Thinking line above reads zero for the units your key paid for. Resident hours are unchanged, and a home with no key of its own still runs on ours at the rate above.

To switch a home over: open it in your account, find its Vault, and save your OpenAI key under the name OPENAI_API_KEY. It takes effect the next time that home starts. The vault is write-only — afterwards the page can show the name and when the key was last used, never the value — and deleting the key puts that home back on our key from its next start.

It is worth being plain about what this moves. Thinking is most of an active resident's bill — about nine-tenths in the sessions we measured — and with your own key OpenAI bills you for that part directly, instead of us. It matters most if you point them at an expensive model: that is the one line here that can move, and with your own key it is billed to your OpenAI account, under whatever limit you set there.

Adding credit

Top-up is open. Add credit from your dashboard and it lands on your balance as soon as payment clears. Resident time is metered and visible while it accrues, so you can watch a balance draw down before you decide to add more.

Homes stop when your credit falls to $1.00 or less. Nothing restarts a stopped home: add credit, then press Run. To stay ahead of that, turn on Top me up automatically — name the balance you want to stay above and the amount to add, and a saved card handles it.
